OUR CITY
The City of Fayetteville is a booming community located in the Sandhills , a region of southeastern North Carolina ; and is the soul of Cumberland County . Raleigh , the state ’ s capital , is approximately 65 miles north of Fayetteville . Fayetteville is adjacent to Interstate Highway 95 . This is a critical north-to-south corridor that links Fayetteville to Washington D . C ., Baltimore and New York . To the south , there are direct connections to Charleston , Orlando and Miami . The city is centrally located in the state , thus providing residents with quick access to the beautiful coastal beaches of the east and grand mountain ranges in the western part of the state . Fayetteville is also home to three colleges and universities and various other area attractions . Some of the tourist highlights include the Airborne & Special Operations Museum , the North Carolina Veterans Park , SEGRA Stadium , home to the Fayetteville Woodpeckers and the Cape Fear Botanical Garden . There are many historical sites , museums , local breweries and shopping areas across the city of Fayetteville .
Fayetteville is also home to Fort Bragg , the largest military installation in the world . Pope Army Airfield is contiguous to Ft . Bragg , adding significantly to the Fayetteville area economy and to the diverse culture of the community . Fort Bragg is home to the Army ’ s XVIII Airborne Corps and the 82nd Airborne Division , as well as the U . S . Army Special Operations Command and the 3rd Special Forces Group . In 2011 , Fort Bragg also became the headquarters for the Army ’ s combat-ready conventional forces and the Army Reserve following the move of U . S . Army Forces Command and U . S . Army Reserve Command to the base . Fayetteville has been acknowledged three times as an “ All-America City ” by the National Civic League and is known as a community of “ History , Heroes and a Hometown Feeling .” In 2012 , the City celebrated the 250th anniversary of its founding . The City of Fayetteville is a “ CAN DO ” city !
