Ferocious Lions
Lions are big mighty cats which most people call King of the Jungle or Kings of the Night . Lions have a hairy neck which is called a mane but the female lions do not have a mane . Lions are related to cats because a lion is actually a cat ( a big , big cat !) Those big cats live in the African Savannah and that ' s where they eat , sleep , play and lots more ! Some people own lions as pets and that ' s really cool ! They sleep during that day and are active in the night and the sad thing is that there are not many asiatic lions left in the world . A lion is the second largest cat in the world but a tiger is the largest . Lions are super fast runners and they can run to 35- mph ! Female lions give birth to about 4 cubs . Dinner Time
Did you ever wonder what lions eat ? Well I can tell you right now but first let me tell you a little bit on how they hunt . Lions run at 30-36 mph when they hunt . To give you an idea cars in the city go 30 miles an hour , that ' s really fast ! Lions are meat eaters but don ' t worry they usually won ' t eat us because we have a different kind of meat in us which is called “ overwhelmingly pork ” that ' s a weird name . When lions hunt , their hunts do end in faliure , well sometimes because they can get defended and maybe their prey is to fast to catch ! They sleep during the day because they want enough energy to find prey in the nighttime . A lion ' s diet is wildebeest , zebras , and antelopes . Did you know ! The full moonlight helps them find their prey . When the pride is about to eat the male lions dig in first then the other lions of the pride join in . These lions have an extra thumb that they use to hook onto their prey and make sure that they dont get away .
