Another driving force for Jalen, his high schools’ legacy, his Pride team mates and football coach. Mountain Pointe High, situated in the Ahwatukee community of Phoenix, has long been known for its proud athletic tradition. This positive influence has only benefited Jalen and helped him succeed through the ups-and-downs of the game. Many football fans might remember last season’s state championships. Mountain Pointe earned a right to play, but the Pride lost the Division I final to Chandler Hamilton, 31-16. It’s a game Jalen won’t soon forget. “That loss drives us to never experience that pain again” Excited about the future, Sarah has been traveling with Jalen for unofficial college visits, but tells us she allows him space to ask questions and seek answers for himself. “My whole family has impacted my life immeasurably,” says Jalen. “They are always there for me.” As we go to print, this six-foot-two, 183 pound Wide Receiver and Defensive Back has whittled the list of potential suitors to seven schools: Arizona, Ohio State, Oregon, Oregon State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, and Vanderbilt. Jalen says he plans to make a decision in October. He’ll then graduate from Mountain Pointe in mid-December, enroll at his college-of-choice in January and participate in spring workouts in March. It’ll be a busy and exciting time for Jalen, and we wish him the best of luck! 202
