Maria Sol Suarez Martinez SACRED SPACE.
11 am - 8 pm, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Camera obscura on Front St, next to the Gazebo.
Focusing on the role of ritual, symbolism, and religious iconography
as visual expression of the subconscious mind, this interactive
installation invites the public to participate in creating a communal
non-denominational altar. People may bring offerings to the alter at any
time throughout the weekend.
SACRED SPACE: Artist Talk & Workshop
6 PM, Friday August 16 th , KIAC Ballroom
Workshop participants are invited to bring written prayers of gratitude,
petitions, feelings, stories, or objects they don’t mind parting with. Maria Sol
will explore the aesthetics of altars, and how spiritual symbolism spills into art
and creation. Workshop participants will create an aesthetically harmonious
space that can be used for visitation, meditation and even prayer.

Olfa and Sun is an autoethnographic project that explores the narratives we
consume and carry with us from spontaneous interactions in everyday life.
This project works to explore the disjointed experience of stepping in and
out of a stranger’s life when a personal secret is revealed. Hannah Campbell
is a photographer who focuses on themes of shared experience, collective
memories and storytelling. Hannah is based in Vancouver/unceded Coast
Salish Territories and holds a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art + Design
and is currently completing an MFA at Simon Fraser University.
Bennie Allain A MEDIOCRE ORACLE

Billy Bigg’s Blacksmith Shop (Princess St & Third Avenue)
Bennie will be constructing a large-scale, interactive, found-object
sculpture as part of on ongoing series called “A Mediocre Oracle”. The
sculpture will function as a carnival game-like piece that participants
can interact with. In the end, viewers will recieve a concise though vague
personal fortune revealed to them.
