Hours Necessary to be Considered Full-time Employee
Spas were asked to say how many weekly hours their service providers need to
work in order to be considered a full-time employee. On average, respondents
said service providers had to work at least 31 hours per week to be considered a
full-time employee.
It should be noted that the number of hours necessary to be considered a full-time
employee is a threshold value. The actual number of hours worked may be greater than
the threshold.
The average number of hours necessary for full-time status did not vary greatly by type
of spa. Almost nine in 10 day spas (85%) gave a value in the range 28-32 hours. A large
majority of resort/hotel spas (78%) also gave a figure in the range 28-32 hours.
Across all spa types, the most frequently reported minimum was 30 hours, quoted by
52% of day spas and 51% of resort/hotel spas.
