About the Cover: River Grove Ranch
River Grove Ranch in Hailey, Idaho was purchased in 2017 by Elizabeth and Tom Tierney. Elizabeth
bought her first Peruvian horse from well known breeders of strong mountain horses, Cheryl and Forrest Hymas,
more than 31 years ago. This first Peruvian of theirs lived for more than 30 years and enjoyed being ridden in both
the rugged mountains of Idaho and the hills and beaches of California.
After moving to Idaho full time, the Tierneys decided to expand their passion for the Peruvian horse by
engaging Nicole Brass, the daughter of of the
Hymas’, to breed and train at River Grove Ranch.
Nicole started showing Arabians at the age of
five and began her love affair with Peruvian horses in
1972 when her parents began their successful breed-
ing & showing program. Throughout her life she
has shown numerous breeds of horses in a variety of
disciplines, anything from jumping to barrel racing.
She also served as Miss Rodeo Idaho and showed Rein-
ing horses for several years to many championships
under her mentor, the renown Al Dunning.
But her love for the Peruvian horse brought
her back to Idaho to train strong, solid mountain and
pleasure horses that can also win in the show arena.
She takes a gentle approach when working with horses
and her training ground is in the stunning terrain of
mountains, rivers, and meadows. Nicole’s aim is to
produce a horse that is willing, confident, well rounded
equine partner.
River Grove Ranch is located on the Bigwood
River a few miles south of world famous Sun Valley,
Idaho.
