Da Zhu (Fengwei Zhu)
Da Zhu was a member of
the Beijing Modern Dance
Company from 2014 to 2017.
He performed in the modern
dance drama The Zodiac,
Twenty-four solar terms, twelve
sounds between flowers,
October Spring Festival, Three
Rains and Wishes. He starred
in Yang Liping’s large-scale
marine-themed dance Pingtan
Image as well as Under Siege.
He performed in the drama
Eating Fire, which premiered
at the Nanluoguxiang Drama
Festival, and participated in
Gong Zhonghui’s dance work
The Pavilion (which premiered
at the National Centre for the
Performing Arts, Beijing) as
well as Aida.
Xiaofan Feng
Xiaofan Feng was born in
Kunming, Yunnan province,
and is of Naxi nationality.
He trained at the Sichuan
Conservatory of Music and
has performed in Yang
Liping’s Peacock and Peacock
Winter, and participated
in the creation of her first
multimedia show, Pingtan
Image. An accomplished
player of several instruments
including the pipa and the
guzheng, he performed as a
musician in Under Siege and
has participated in more than
100 domestic and international
tours in Asia, Europe and
Oceania.
Maya Jilan Dong
Maya Jilan Dong is a Bai from
Yunnan province, where she
was brought up in a rural
village. In 2004, when she
was 12, Yang Liping invited
her to join the Yunnan Yang
Liping Arts and Culture
Company. One of the
company’s longest-serving
members, she has danced
in Liping’s most important
works, including Dynamic
Yunnan, Peacock, Under
Siege and Peacock Winter.
The success of her recent
independent solo, Whip, led
to short film collaborations
with the Oscar-nominated
British director Mike Figgis and
the internationally renowned
pianist Rosey Chan. She was
nominated for the Emerging
Artist award at this year’s
National Dance Awards (UK).
In March she performed and
created the choreography
and movement direction
for James Lavelle’s film The
Lost Highway.
