Area of Focus Number 1: Student Achievement
Goal:
Ensure all students are College and Career Ready by providing rigorous, engaging,
and innovative Preschool through 12 th grade teaching and learning experiences.
Objectives:
● Create purposeful teaching and learning experiences to ensure that all students are
College and Career Ready:
o Increase support for English Language Learners (ELLs) at all levels
o Implement Cisco Academy
o Provide information sessions on Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for
students and parents
o Expand a District Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) program to 1 st grade students
● Promote Collaboration at all levels of the organization:
o Align the Comprehensive School Safety Plan, Local Control and Accountability Plan
(LCAP), and budget
o Continue with District Curriculum Councils [Math, Science, English Language Arts,
Social Studies, Counselors’ Network, Social and Emotional Learning (SEL),
Specialized Academic Instruction (SAI), and TK-5 Council]
o Continue to promote and explore opportunities for collaboration across all grade levels
and subject areas both during and outside of the school day
o Continue to offer parent education programs to support families within the Walnut
Valley Unified School District
o Continue to review and revise common assessments K-12
o Use data from multiple measures to inform instruction
● Provide high-quality Professional Development to close the student achievement gap:
o Ensure the impactful use of the Low Performing Student Block Grant to support
student achievement and close the achievement gap
o Continue K-8 English Language Arts/English Language Development training
