WVUSD: 2019/2020 Year-End Results The Board of Trustees continued attending and participating in a variety of professional development opportunities. Study Sessions (throughout the school year) focused on topics such as the following: • Information Technology (IT) Services (and its increased role in teaching and learning) • Early Childhood Education • Nutrition Services • Math Placement • Accountability and Assessment Outcomes 2018/2019 • California School Dashboard • Safety and Wellness (including Social and Emotional Learning) • 2019/2020 Mid-Year Review Members of the Board of Trustees participated in visits to school sites and observed classroom instruction. Members attended a variety of workshops and trainings at the regional and state level, such as the School Services of California (SSC) budget trainings, school safety sessions, and the California School Boards Association (CSBA) Annual Education Conference. Trustees also held leadership roles on regional and state-level School Board committees. The District’s Leadership Team continued to be represented by outstanding leaders with a vast range of experiences and expertise. WVUSD welcomed several new team members and proudly congratulated several individuals on promotional opportunities both within and outside the organization. All new Leadership Team members participated in an onboarding exercise with the Superintendent. Leadership Team members met consistently during regularly scheduled professional development opportunities, including the annual retreats and monthly Leadership Team Meetings, with a focus on building leadership capacity. The leadership curriculum continued to center around the Below the Green Line Theory. The 2019/2020 school year began with an indepth professional development “Retreat” facilitated by representatives from the nationally acclaimed Arbinger Institute focusing on Developing and Implementing an Outward Mindset. Leadership Team members learned “how we turn inward” and then were taught tools to assist in “turning more outward.” Throughout the year, continued learning around Implementing an Outward Mindset included book studies (such as Arbinger’s: Leadership and Self-Deception) and application of various tools and resources (such as Daily Application: Simple Ways to Maintain an Outward Mindset). 51
