WVUSD: 2019/2020 Year-End Results
Within the Student Achievement focus area are five main objectives:
● College and Career Ready
● Collaboration
● Professional Development
● Creativity and Innovation
● Achievement and Excellence
A significant emphasis was made on developing instructional approaches, which support English
Language Learners in our classrooms. This included the analysis of data for all students,
including English Language Learners (12.3% of our District’s students), as well as professional
development at every grade level. Recent recommendations from the Federal Program
Monitoring (FPM) review validated the progress WVUSD schools were making with all English
Learners and reclassified English Learners as Fluent English Proficient. Over the five years of
California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) data, WVUSD English
Learners gained 13 points in ELA and 15 points in math in closing the achievement gap
compared to English only students. From the 2019 CAASPP data, 37% of WVUSD English
Learners scored proficient or advanced as compared to 13% of the state’s English Learner
population scoring proficient or advanced. From the 2019 CAASPP data, 66% of WVUSD
English Learners scored proficient or advanced in math as compared to 13% of the state’s
English Learner population scoring proficient or advanced.
