Is serving in the Choir for you ? I hope you will prayerfully consider it .
Many of us attend it , are familiar with it , and are even part of it ; but what exactly is the Church ? Why is it important ? Is it a she ? What is our relationship to her ? How important is the role of the Church in our lives ? Looking to the Scriptures ( with a particular emphasis on Old Testament types ) we will seek to answer these questions and more in order that together we might cultivate the crude beginnings of an ecclesiology .
New Covenant
Teacher : Tim Shaw
4 th Floor ( Whitaker St .) “ The Ten Commandments ”
What role do they play in our lives as New Testament believers ? What does Jesus do with them ? How are they meant to crush us ? How are they meant to guide us ? What do they mean for our daily lives ? How does Jesus fulfill them ? How does Jesus expand them ? These are the questions we will in this class be seeking to ask and answer together for each of the commandments .
Berean ( 30s ) Teacher : Ken Wood
Room 31 ( 3 rd Fl . Axson ) “ Do Well — The Crown Biblical Financial Study ”
Are you a master of your money , or does your money master you ? Matthew 6:24 says “ No one can serve two masters . Either you will hate the one and love the other , or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other . You cannot serve both God and money .” This study teaches more than just practical financial principles — it teaches the successful combination of God ’ s wisdom along with practical principles .
— Kathryn Van Eck
Fall Quarter Sunday School ~ Sept . - Nov . College
Emmaus ( 40s )
Teacher : Evan Gear Teacher : Tim Foster
Room 73 ( 2 nd Fl . Admin )
Room 36 ( 3 rd Fl . Axson )
“ Understanding the Church ” “ Inside Out : Engaging Our Emotions Theologically ”
Human emotions are complex . Winston Churchill wrestled with the “ Black Dog ” of depression . John Bunyan ’ s Pilgrim wallowed in the “ Slough of Despond .” Charles Spurgeon addressed the Minister ’ s “ Fainting Fits .” How do we process our difficult emotions biblically ? What should we do with our depression , anxiety , anger , shame , or disappointment ? This course will examine how our emotions make theological statements . We will study the biblical evidence for how our emotions serve as messengers of the heart and how they inform us about our relationship with God .
Agape ( 50s ) Teacher : Ron Parrish
Room 70 ( 2 nd Fl . Admin ) “ Book of Colossians ”
The theme of this letter is the supremacy and sufficiency of Christ . In Christ we have a hope laid up in heaven . In Christ are to be found all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge . In Christ our lives are hidden in God . Christ is central and supreme . He is sufficient and triumphant . Christ is all and in all . What a glorious gospel proclaiming a glorious Christ .
Garmer ( 60s ) Teacher : Ed Forester
Room 30 ( 3 rd Fl . Axson ) “ Survey of the Book of Isaiah ”
In this magnificent OT book we are able to gain understanding of God ’ s sovereignty over his creation and in particular with his Elect . God ’ s chastening and his affirmation of his love and the continuation of his covenant , are clearly revealed , leading to the description of the “ Man of Sorrows .”
