Rugby 2018
Rugby at HNHS is alive and kicking. 2018 coaches Conrad
Waitoa and Tony Maidens development a culture and game
plan that took the HNHS E grade team to a Championship
win, Div 6 Champions and Central 6 runner-up. The team
had a solid base of Year 9, 10 and 11 boys. The team was
supported by Super Rugby and Magpies representatives
Tony Lamborn, Tiaan Falcon, Sam McNicol, Jason Long,
and referee Josh Strong throughout the season.
Played 11, won 8 and lost 3. Beating St Johns D grade 26
- 15 was a highlight as they had very good U16 rep players
and we outplayed them in all areas of the game.
HNHS scored a massive 337pts for and conceded 204 from
55 tries and 35 conversions. Most tries JJ Nuku-Stone x 14,
Most points Oscar Sowman 74pts 34 cons, 1 pen, 8 tries.
We congratulated Ollie Sowman and Tom Vautier, who
trailed for the Hawkes Bay U14 reps and JJ Nuku-Stone,
Bruno McDonald, Dustin Grant-Foley, Isaac Winterson and
Oscar Sowman on being selected to trial for the HB U16s.
The Senior Player of the season Oscar Sowman, Junior
Player of the season Saxon Parr-Hutton.
HNHS looks set to run more rugby teams in 2019, with a
junior and senior teams, with Conrad Waitoa, Tony Maidens
and Gavin Franklin already keen to coach, we look forward
to communicating with you in 2019.
