Voix de Femmes
Voix de Femmes is an auditioned choir for Year 10-13
girls. We’ve had a successful year and really developed and
improved as a choir under the amazing direction of Mrs
Melville. We’ve explored a large repertoire stemming from
many different countries; Scotland, Italy, Hungary and of
course New Zealand.
The highlight of the year for me was when we won the Choral
Art Music Award at the regional Big Sing competition for
our performance of Three Hungarian Folk Songs by Bela
Bartok. For this we received a rather odd-looking trophy,
however it was nice to know that all of our hard work and
extra before-school practices had paid off.
Aside from the Big Sing (our major event for the year) we
also sung at Music Festival with some new songs from the
British Isles: “Wee Croodin Doo” and “The Keel Row”
as well as our trusty Hungarian folk songs. We performed
for the Havelock North Intermediate Choir as well as
listening to them singing their Kids Sing songs. It was a nice
experience sharing our singing with future HNHS choristers
and hopefully, inspiring the future Voix de Femmes.
