Gardeners Without Borders – Creating Equal Employment Opportunities: The recently
launched revolutionary gardening program at ALEH Negev-Nahalat Eran brings the
philosophy of community integration to new heights, breaking down barriers and
bolstering daily interaction between people with disabilities and the community. With its
groundbreaking approach, the program offers people with disabilities fair wages and equal
opportunity employment in a supportive and normative social setting. Workers in the
program – people with disabilities from all sections of the population – operate and upkeep
village grounds, together with students from ALEH’s special education school: watering,
weeding, trimming, cleaning and fertilizing the ground. ALEH Negev hopes to expand the
program in order to provide fulfilling and enjoyable employment opportunities to as many
individuals with disabilities in the region as possible.
