activism initiatives from participating students from a diversity of spheres across the educational spectrum and from all areas of the country. In 2018, the Tikkun Olam initiative included some 13,000 students from 72 schools, along with an additional 21 educational frameworks for people with special needs – all taking part in an extensive experiential educational process of exposure, awareness, and changing perceptions towards people with disabilities. Activities in 2018 included lectures introducing students to various types of disabilities, the concept of accessibility, and the impact of inclusion on society at large; meetings with teenagers and adults with disabilities who explain how they navigate their worlds on a daily basis; informational videos about specific visible and invisible disabilities; hands-on “disability experiences,” such as navigating an obstacle course in wheelchairs and conversing in sign language while wearing noise-cancelling headphones; marches of inclusivity; integrated field trips, accessible joint activities and participation in education seminars.
