Realizing Your Personal Vision

SKILL LEVEL : III - IV
CONCEPT : Develop and define your personal voice through intense discussion and focused reflection in a course that aims to evolve your artistic vision . We work to meet this goal and hone our photographic skills in the process . We begin each day by examining the work of well-known artists and discussing their messages , why their work is important , and what makes it uniquely theirs . There are opportunities for introspection , making images in the landscape , and refining photographic skills . Students work individually with the instructors to develop their personal photographic and conceptual messages .
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES : Students use digital SLR cameras , Adobe Lightroom and digital printmaking .
ACTIVITIES : We participate in daily lectures , oneon-one and group discussions , critiques , image making , walks , studio time , editing , developing and printing images .
FACULTY : Shana and Robert ParkeHarrison explore the triangular relationship of humans , technology and nature . They combine sculpture , painting , set design , performance , photography and implied narrative to create constructed , dreamlike images . Their works have been featured in numerous shows , including the " Mediations Biennale " in Poznan , Poland ; " Fotografica Biennial " in Bogota , Colombia ; “ lille 3000 " in Lille , France ; and " Wall at WAM " in Worcester , Mass . They are represented by Catherine Edelman Gallery in Chicago and La galerie particulière , Paris .

Travel Photography

SKILL LEVEL : II - III
CONCEPT : Transform your love of travel into a remarkable collection of photographic images in this intensive workshop helmed by a renowned travel photographer . Travel is a desire , a dream and often a necessity , and documenting a journey through images a powerful way to share this dream to others . Students learn from National Geographic photographer Massimo Bassano while exploring the natural beauty of Colorado . We concentrate on travel photography and the creative process . You create a cohesive series of photographs that represents your personal photographic vision of this magnificent location . There are daily assignments as well as daily group and individual meetings .
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES : Students work with digital SLR cameras . We use Adobe Lightroom , Adobe Bridge and Photoshop to edit , process and print images .
ACTIVITIES : Embark on field trips and explore a broad spectrum of natural environments , dramatic locations and sensational backdrops . The instructor discusses how to approach people , the secrets of body language , understanding local culture , being sensitive and flexible , and the technical aspects of the camera . We consider equipment and digital concerns in different travel environments , ways to photograph people , lighting , and the understanding of color .
FACULTY : Born and raised in Italy , photojournalist Massimo Bassano has published his work in National Geographic Traveler and on the National Geographic website , as well as in numerous European publications . In 2004 , he was awarded a Ph . D . in Journalism from the Italian Association of Journalism . His acclaimed photography book , The Color of Silence , detailed the 12 weeks he spent in a little-known Italian monastery . Massimo frequently joins photography and other expeditions for National Geographic .

Pushing the Boundaries : creative digital image-making

SKILL LEVEL : II - IV
CONCEPT : Explore new horizons in photography when you apply digital constructs to traditional imagery . This workshop covers intermediate and advanced image manipulation using Photoshop layers , masks and adjustment layers . We also explore the possibilities of using the camera as a scanner , and incorporating antique images in an image . The instructor shares her working techniques and ideas on creativity by going through image demonstrations that you can follow along at your workstation . Please bring a selection of current images for instructor input .
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES : We work exclusively in Photoshop , using your own images as well as images the instructor brings . Familiarity with masks , layers and adjustment layers is essential .
ACTIVITIES : Daily lectures , demonstrations and a lot of hands-on lab work provide students with the opportunity to advance their skills . Each day begins with a few creative technical exercises , followed by studio time to develop your own images . We use scanner ( s ), and you are encouraged to bring digital cameras or cell phones for capturing additional elements .
FACULTY : Maggie Taylor is a creator of lovely things who lives in Gainesville , Fla . Her work has been exhibited and collected internationally and her work appears in four published books , including an edition of Alice ’ s Adventures in Wonderland and an Adobe Photoshop Masterclass book titled Maggie Taylor ’ s Landscape of Dreams .
