SKILL LEVEL : II - III
CONCEPT : Explore the possibilities of photographing in color while learning a practical multi-step approach to digital photography . In this exploratory workshop , students photograph on location in Colorado mountain towns and the surrounding landscape near Anderson Ranch . We explore a variety of approaches to going out into the world to make pictures . You learn methods for proper color balancing , toning and color printing using Adobe Lightroom . The aim of this workshop is for you to broaden your understanding of color photography — from initial capture to final print .
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES : Students use DSLR cameras , iPhones , point-and-shoot cameras , Adobe Lightroom and Epson 3880 printers . We explore digital photography , digital workflow and digital printmaking with Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop .
ACTIVITIES : Students learn from slide presentations , individual and group discussions and field trips . Each student works on an individual project , either an ongo ing body of work or discovering new pathways . We review and assess each student ’ s previous work . We also venture into the field to photograph with camera instruction and discussions on light and color . Presentations include digital workflow , processing digital files and an overview of contemporary color photography .
FACULTY : Trent Davis Bailey received his M . F . A . from the California College of the Arts . He is the recipient of the 2015 Snider Prize from the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago , Ill . Trent ’ s work has been exhibited extensively in California and Colorado , including at the David Brower Center in Berkeley and the Southern Exposure in San Francisco . He is currently a lecturer in photography at the California College of the Arts .

SKILL LEVEL : Open to All
CONCEPT : Spend a fun and engaging weekend photographing some of the most scenic locales in the Rocky Mountains . Students visit locations near Aspen and Snowmass with mountain views , sparkling streams , a multitude of wildflowers , and 100-year-old artifacts from the area ’ s storied bygone mining days . This photographer ’ s dream tour reveals a variety of eyecatching possibilities that can be revisited later with in-depth visual exploration .
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES : We cover digital cameras and discussion of camera technique for aesthetic and technical application in the field . We meet in the digital studios at Anderson Ranch for reviews and group discussions on a variety of digital processing techniques such as basic Adobe Lightroom cataloging and processing , high dynamic range , black and white conversion , and more .
ACTIVITIES : We learn about the historical and scenic significance of each location . Students work one-on-one with the instructor throughout the weekend to improve their photography . We spend at least one hour at each site , with driving and hiking times kept to a minimum . Studio times include group and individual instruction on studio capture processing and cataloging .
FACULTY : Derek Johnston is a Professor and Director of the Professional Photography Program at the Isaacson School for New Media at Colorado Mountain College . His fine art landscape work has been exhibited across the country , including in the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago . He has been honored with a Colorado Council on the Arts grant in visual arts .

SKILL LEVEL : II - III
CONCEPT : Sharpen your vision as a photographer and enrich the context of your work by exploring the question , “ What gives a photograph meaning ?” In this workshop , students take a deeper look at the art of photography and examine how photographs attain meaning and the elements that supply them with the capacity to share a story . Learn with daily discussions , lectures and hands-on photography . Experimentation is encouraged as a means of pushing past the familiar and finding new ways of being expressive with our photographs . Each day we focus on a specific photographic strategy and consider how subject matter and form create meaning .
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES : Students use digital photography and digital printmaking with Adobe Lightroom and / or Adobe Photoshop .
ACTIVITIES : We engage in independent shooting , daily one-on-one and group discussions , reviews , lectures and studio time for editing , developing and printing images . Daily lectures , demonstrations and lots of hands-on studio time provide students with the opportunity to advance their skills .
FACULTY : Christine Collins received her M . F . A . from Massachusetts College of Art . She is an Assistant Professor at Lesley University College of Art and Design and has been a guest lecturer / critic at Harvard University and Parsons the New School for Design , among others . Her work is represented by Jen Bekman Gallery in New York City .
