COURSE RATING COMMITTEE
WHEN YOUR COURSE NEEDS TO BE RE-RATED

COURSE RATING

PWGA has divided its course rating responsiblities to cover 8 geographical areas for rating purposes. Each area has its own team, comprised of a Chairman and several raters. Please contact your specific area course raters.
A golf course is rated on its measured length and its playing difficulty under normal conditions based on the ability of the scratch golfer and the bogey golfer, and compared with other rated courses.
If the length of your course changes materially( a difference of 9 yards will change the Course Rating 0.1 stroke), contact your Area Course Rating Chairman as soon as possible. PWGA Permanent Course Rating Markers may be ordered through the PWGA office.

COURSE RATING COMMITTEE

PWGA is divided into 8 geographical areas; each area has its own course rating team. The team is comprised of a Chairman and several raters. The Area Chair keeps the area calendar and schedules the ratings for that area. These women volunteer their time and expertise to rate courses throughout Northern California. They also volunteer their time to attend seminars and continue their education. PWGA is licensed to provide course ratings by the USGA. One of the conditions of this license is that we send raters to formally train at the USGA Calibration Seminars held annually. If you are interested in learning more about course rating, please contact your Area Course Rating Chairman or the Course Rating Director.

WHEN YOUR COURSE NEEDS TO BE RE-RATED

When your course is due to be re-rated, the Course Rating Chairwoman for your area will contact you to help set up the rating. This will include setting up a time with the Pro Shop and reserving carts for the raters. She will also need to verify that permanent markers are in place at each teeing ground. There is no rating fee for our member courses, but it is customary for the Ladies Club to provide lunch for the rating team. The PWGA Rep is also asked to accompany the team to act as‘ Narrator’ and answer any questions about the course. USGA requires courses to be re-rated every 10 years or when a permanent change has occurred, but PWGA tries to keep the schedule at every 7 years if possible.
