Tips for a Safe 4th
July 2017
Each year many of us gather to celebrate the 4th of July with family and friends. The 4th represents the Declaration
of Independence and the birth of the United States of America as an independent nation. We want the day to be a
day of celebration, but more importantly a SAFE celebration. Here are few reminders about protecting your family
from mosquitos. In addition, we want to remind residents that fireworks are prohibited in the City of Southlake. If
you want to see a great fireworks show, please join us at Stars & Stripes at Southlake Town Square on July 3rd.

DEET
The most dangerous time to be
outdoors due to tit being the
feeding hours for mosquitos.
Buy an insect repellant that con-
tains DEET and be sure to follow
the manufacturers instructions.
Dress in long sleeves and pants
when outside. If your clothes
are thin spray with a repellent.
Drain
Make sure flower pots, water dishes, bird baths and
children's swimming pools are properly drained so
they're not breeding grounds for mosquitos.

Fireworks Reminder
The City of Southlake has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to using fireworks, it’s
simply not worth the risk. Instead, we invite everyone to join us for Southlake’s annual
Stars and Stripes celebration on July 3rd in Town Square. We want to provide a safe
environment for kids and their families to enjoy the holiday. The best way to have fun
and play it safe is to leave the fireworks to the professionals.
The Southlake Fire Department wants to remind residents that possessing or using
fireworks in the City of Southlake is illegal. Individuals in possession of fireworks will
have them confiscated, and a citation may be issued. The fines for possessing or using
fireworks within the Southlake City limits can be as high as $2,000.
