Middle School Basketball
Stuart hosts a tournament every year. The middle school girls' basketball team travels there most every year. These tournaments took place on February 17 and 18.
The 7th grade girls first game was against Stuart, they won with a score of 35-13. Bridget Bartling had the most points with 15. Their second game was vs. Winner. Brecken Bolander had the most points with 10. The third game was vs. Stuart again with a final of 30-9. Brecken Bolander led with the most points with 9. The last game was vs. Winner with a final of 30-28. Bridget led with the most points with 9. The 7th grade ended up with a win. They took first in the tournament.
The 8th grade got 3rd place winning 2 games out of 5. The tournament was played with pool play. The first game they played was vs. Stuart. They ended up losing with a final score of 17-20. The second game they played was vs. CWC with a final score of 21-31. The 3rd game they played was vs. OCE, with a final score of 21-8. The 4th game they played was vs. CWC and lost with a final score of 20-22. The last game they played was for 3rd and 4th and they won with a final of 22-16 vs. West Holt.
The middle school 7th/8th grade boys basketball team went to a tournament in Valentine on March 3. The boys beat Mullen 42-36. Ben Witt, Lando Edoff, Jaden Swan, and Nick Nelson had 8 points, Bryce Frank had 5, and Brogan Glover had 3.
"A lot of there steals came with there full court press," said coach, Tania Witt.
Chase County was the second team they faced. The Cougars lost 31-33. Ben Witt had 24 points, Bryce Frank had 6, and Nick Nelson had a free throw.
The teams record in pool play put the Cougars in for the 3rd/4th place game against a very tough team, Broken Bow.
"They were bigger and stronger than us overall," said Tania Witt.
The Cougars ending up losing. Ben Witt had 22 points, Bryce Frank had 19, and Nick Nelson ended with 3.
Tania Witt stated, "In this tournament we saw a lot of great competition from teams we would not normally see."
