High School Band Travels to Mitchell For Large Group Contest

The high school band performed at a large group contest in Mitchell at their Performing Arts Center. The group performed on March 21 at 10:00 A.M. They played two songs, "Appellation Carrel" and "After Burn."
The band performed in front of three judges. The top score you could possibly get was a 35. The band received scores of 24, 25, and 26.
"I thought we did fine, but there were still areas of improvement," stated Freshman, Kellie Jones.
School Mall Fundraiser Nets Over $2000 for Burke Elementary

The weather may have been frightful during the month of January, but the fundraising efforts for the Burke Elementary school certainly were NOT! Every year students in grades K-5 take part in the School Mall Fundraiser, which consists of filling out family and friend’s addresses in a booklet consisting of 10 post cards. The booklets are then sent back into the company, and our school receives money simply for turning a completed booklet back in!
The specific amount changes every year, but on average we acquire about $2.00/completed booklet. We also receive an additional $500 for reaching a set goal of 65 completed booklets. Through the hard work of our elementary students (and their valued parents/guardians), we raised a Grand Total of $1,180.51 along with $1,230.00 in gift cards donated to specific classroom teachers by patrons participating in the fundraising efforts.
The Burke Elementary students and staff would like to THANK everyone for taking the time to fill out a booklet, turn it back into school, and assist us in this fundraiser. We could not make this happen without all of the amazing support from our local community. Money raised is placed into a specific account that will then be used for classroom supplies, class parties, art projects, incentives, student of the month awards, and the list goes on. Our students take it to heart when it comes to being proud of where we come from.
