Fifth Grade Finish Energy Wise Program

The fifth grade finished an energy program called Bright Energy Solutions Power Team Energy Wise Program. The program is designed to teach kids the value of energy and help save families on monthly utility bills. The program is sponsored by the City of Burke and Missouri River Energy Services. Each student was given a Power Team Kit valued at $40. The kit included 2 LED light bulbs, a LED nightlight, and a thermometer to conduct home activities with.

Third Grade Gear Up For Smarter Balance Testing

This will be the first year that the third graders have to take Smarter Balance Testing, so they have been preparing. The students have been taking practice tests to get acquainted with the testing features and styles of questioning techniques.

The class has also been discussing healthy eating habits, appropriate brain food, and sleep patterns that will assist them in becoming strong test takers. They will be hosting an evening with their parents to get them acquainted with the process and procedures of Smarter Balance Testing as well.

Fourth Grade Working on South Dakotan Dioramas

The kids have been working on their Famous South Dakota dioramas that they present at the Gregory County Historical Society's April meeting. The fourth graders have also been reading Runny Babbit stories at Bolt!

In social studies the class will be studying the South and Southwest. They will also be doing a geometry unit in GoMath. They also have a team going to Reading Olympics on March 28.

Three Students Place At Missouri Valley Spelling Bee

Jakoby Schonebaum, Emily Diekmann, and Abigail Simpson all attended and placed at the Missouri Valley Spelling Bee on February 28.

From the first grade, Jakoby got 1st; from second grade Emily placed 1st; and Abigail from the third grade placed 3rd.
