OUR
STRATEGIC
PLAN
Our college has always been guided by its founding idea: To train excellent osteopathic physicians who serve Ohio’s
communities of greatest need. The 2011 transformational gift of $105 million from the Osteopathic Heritage Foundation
launched us on a period of growth and renewal, as the initiatives outlined within the gift built on our strengths and the
beliefs we have championed since our beginning. In 2012, under the leadership of our new executive dean, Ken Johnson,
D.O., and as we were executing initiatives outlined in the gift, we embarked on a strategic planning process. The intent of
the resulting plan was to provide a clear roadmap for college-wide efforts between 2015 and 2017.
A broad range of internal and external stakeholders contributed to our process. We reviewed our mission, vision and values.
Additionally, we took a deeper look into our research and curricular objectives, especially in primary care, to gain a better
understanding of where we stood then and determine where we wanted to be in the future. The plan that emerged from
our process made clear our college strategy and priorities. This plan has guided our growth and development.
In the following pages we report on progress toward our goals in fiscal year 2016-2017.
