Sponsor Church

A Kernel of Wheat

In 2001, God planted a kernel of wheat in a Havelock church. At first, the growth was small and slow. But the real growth was yet to come for Pastor Chung Soo Kim and his congregation.
The modest church does not own their church building. They use a small trailer house that belongs to an American mother church. Their trailer house may be taken down in the near future and if that happens they will not have a place to worship. However, adversity would not stop what God was about to do with this faithful church.
In 2009, Pastor Kim attended the Pastors’ Seminar held in Denver, Colorado. It was there that Pastor Kim met Pastor James of the HHK WMC and learned about all the ongoing mission work for the poor children of Peru.
Pastor Kim heard that the children of Peru were not only receiving financial help but they were also hearing God’ s words all throughout their young lives. When Pastor Kim returned to his church, they held a meeting with all the church members and decided to sponsor two children in Peru. Since then, the real growth started to take place.
In 2014, Pastor Kim, his wife, his oldest son, and two church deacons were blessed to join the Mission Trip to Peru. When they met the child they were sponsoring, they realized what an impact their support had made for those children.
A year after they returned from their mission trip, in late April and early May, a handful of church members gathered to prepare egg-roll and‘ Bulgogi’ lunch boxes. After many days of preparation, they cooked and delivered lunch to the military bases, local grocery stores and businesses through the town.
It was a huge success. The town loved the food and they raised good amount of funds. It was not an easy task, but each members that helped was filled with joy and thanksgiving as they served our God.
What happened next was more amazing. With all the money they raised, they decided to donate the proceeds to the HHK WMC instead of investing in a new church building for themselves.
It reminds us of Luke 21:2 where the poor widow offered everything she had in her two copper coins. This money will be used to build the Youth Training Center in Arequipa! This humble church is doing great things to spread the word of God and train the youth to go out to all corners of the world.
A single kernel of wheat can give rise to fifty to two hundred more kernels. With a bit of sacrifice, selflessness and hard work, Havelock Korean Baptist Church is helping to raise and nurture hundreds and thousands of future youth to grow up in the love of our God. Many future warriors of Christ and victories for His kingdom will stem from this single kernel of wheat.
The city of Havelock is located in North Carolina near the Atlantic Ocean. The largest naval air base, Marine Corps Air Station, is also based in Havelock. The city has a small population of Koreans and Havelock Korean Baptist Church is the only Korean church. Pastor Chung Soo Kim became senior pastor in 2005 under the direction of God. The total number of church members is twenty five including children and adults.
