Much like electing Lincoln did and more recently the Brit ’ s did with the June 23rd Brexit vote , the establishment has been sent a message with this election , if only for a brief moment .
Looking back a few months ago when we laughed at the thought Mr . Trump had a chance , economic intelligence reports updated a list of the top 10 global risk scenarios which included :
• The UK voting to leave the EU
• China ’ s stalling growth
• The rising threat of Jihadi terrorism
• Donald Trump wins the U . S . presidential election
It was thought any one of those events could throw the world ’ s economy into a nose dive . Makes me wonder how all the stock market analysts got this result so wrong . All the pre-election chatter about how the market would “ tank ” with a Trump victory and Wednesday after the election there was no sign of the 15 % market drop predicted , as the Dow climbed 300 points ! The European economy didn ’ t plunge into ruin ; they are down 7 % this year , disappointing for investors maybe , but it wasn ’ t a disaster .
Problems abound for the incoming CIC the least of which is global debt . According to a Bankrate study of household , government and non-financial businesses , total debt reached a record $ 152 Trillion in 2015 . Over the last few weeks and months leading up to the presidential election we received numerous calls from of our clients especially those from abroad expressing concern about the impact the election may have on their portfolios . The U . S . seems to still be ahead of the world in recovering from the banking crisis and up 7 % for the year but , “ wild card ” is probably the best way to describe Mr . Trump . Especially considering that while on the campaign trail , Trump admitted the economy wasn ’ t something he looked forward to tackling . In a January interview with “ Good Morning America ,” he offered up a bleak assessment and added that , in terms of fixing it , it ’ s a task he ’ d rather skip .
“ We ’ re in a bubble ,” he said . “ And , frankly , if there ’ s going to be a bubble popping , I hope they pop before I become president because I don ’ t want to inherit all this stuff . I ’ d rather it be the day before rather than the day after , I will tell you that .” Say what ???? www . hiscaptialgroup . com
