STRICTLY AGAINST BREAST CANCER
SABC was a spectacle of glitz and glamour as a host of well-known personalities took to the dance floor at Dublin’ s Convention Centre for the third annual SABC event hosted by Nicky Byrne to raise funds for Breast Cancer Ireland. Breast Cancer survivor Paula McClean and her dance partner Stephen Hegarty took the top prize with their Tango which they performed in front of over 900 guests. TV3’ s Elaine Crowley and Red Rock’ s David Crowley came in second with a Salsa and third place went to Zeba Hairdressing’ s Stephen Kelly and his dance partner PR woman Roisin Tierney-Crowe for their elegant Cha Cha. Other high profile faces who took part were publisher and broadcaster Norah Casey, TV3 presenter Tommy Martin, former rugby international and commentator Shane Byrne, Fair City actors George McMahon and Jenny Dixon, TV3 Weatherman Deric Ó h’ Artagáin, RTE Weatherwoman Helen Curran and model Karena Graham. Two of last year’ s dancers Eoghan McDermott and solicitor Gerald Kean judged the routines along with author Emma Hannigan and stylist Lorraine Keane. Guests from the world of business, arts, sports and media first graced the pink carpet before enjoying a fabulous four course gala dinner. The dance spectacle kicked off with a Gatsby inspired opening act from Showtime Theatre School and then it was straight into the competition itself. The judges were impressed with all the dances but Eoghan McDermott was particularly blown away by the winning couple and when asked what he thought of the dance said to Paula,“ This is going to be controversial because both my mother and girlfriend are here – but you are the hottest woman in the room tonight.” Once the winners were announced guests went on to dance themselves into the small hours as part of the build-up to the festive season.
