WVUSD: 2016/2017 Year-End Results Serving as the host district for one of the largest and most successful Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment (BTSA) programs in the state, has also allowed for numerous instructional leadership opportunities for a number of teachers in WVUSD. Employees have the opportunity to serve as the Program Director, Induction Specialist, and Support Providers. Finally, teachers, as well as district and school-site administrators, led a collaborative process to develop and implement a Peer Assistance Review (PAR) program, for teachers seeking or in-need of additional professional support. As collaboration time amongst employees continues to grow and be formalized at many of our school sites, there was an increased emphasis this year on site-based leadership. Professional development with experts such as Dr. Luis Cruz and Dr. Anthony Muhammad, focused on the leadership component of colleague collaboration and closing the achievement gap. Mini-University 4.0, once again, provided a leadership opportunity for more than 50 WVUSD employees to facilitate professional development seminars for colleagues across the district. Increased classified professional development opportunities at this year’s Mini-University 4.0 including growth in the area of customer service (The FISH philosophy!) and trainings for Instructional Aides. The Walnut Valley Administrators’ Association (WVAA), the Educators’ Association (WVEA), and the Classified Employees Association (CSEA), all successfully welcomed in new members to their respective executive leadership boards. In addition to the local work and priorities of these associations, they were also instrumental in supporting more unique and global issues that impact WVUSD, such as the successful passage of a $153 million facilities bond (Measure WV) and the DOC legislation. The labor organizations were also active in developing their knowledge and leadership in the area of business services, joining Walnut Valley administration at events and trainings such as the annual California Association of School Business Officials (CASBO) Conference and workshops, and the School Services of California, Inc. budget and accountability workshops. The long history of positive parent involvement throughout WVUSD continued this school year as led by the district’s Coordinating Council. As with the district’s labor organizations, parent leaders were instrumental in a variety of legislative issues at the local and state level
