WVUSD: 2016/2017 Year-End Results Human Resources staff facilitated Calendar Committee meetings that included parents, both associations (WVEA and CSEA), and staff that has resulted in the Board approved 2017/2018 school year calendar and has drafted the 2018/2019 school year calendar. District of Choice information has been shared on a continuous basis, as the District team has worked with legislators and lobbyists to support the long-term survival of this program. Customer Service training was provided at Mini-University 4.0. Based on the positive response to this topic, new approaches to providing training are currently being discussed. Special Education has started a conversation with stakeholders regarding an inclusion model for future implementation. This conversation will continue in an ongoing manner. The Board of Trustees and District Administration’s visibility at schools and community events has been noted as a strength of our District. Schools have commented on their pride when visited by their leadership. Collaboration District office leadership continues to visit sites regularly and to be visible for important school celebrations. The Board of Trustees also makes frequent visits to the sites. The Personnel Commission and Human Resources administration visit sites monthly on the morning of the Personnel Commission’s meeting to gather input from classified employees. WVEA and CSEA have both been collaborative partners with the District in gathering information relating to negotiations. Ron Bennett, CEO of School Services of California, has provided consultation and informational services in 2016/2017 to provide all parties with up-to-date fiscal information. Mr. Bennett visited in the fall to provide a fiscal workshop for all parties, and he has been available during negotiations, in-person and via teleconference, to provide targeted information for the parties. This year, a 1.57% one-time “bonus” has been distributed to all represented and non-represented employees. This is a significant accomplishment that was achieved through a truly collaborative process. The Leadership Development Seminar has completed a third consecutive year-long training of volunteer participants, developing leaders across all levels of the organization and culminating with a trip to Gettysburg in June. Members of previous cohorts have gone on to lead within their grade levels, subject areas, and departments; and some have moved on to the completion of administrative credential programs and administrative positions within the District. Almost 120 individuals have participated in the program during the past three years. Partnerships with other organizations that support student learning have continued through Career and Technical Education, including Regional Occupational Program (ROP), the Workability Program, local businesses, and Mt. San Antonio College. 29
