WVUSD: 2016/2017 Year-End Results The Crisis Response Team (CRT) was implemented this year. Over 20 members have been trained in the PREPaRE curriculum, which has been developed by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) and is evidence-based resources related to school crisis prevention and response. Provide Professional Development Providing current professional development to certificated and classified staff is a top priority as proper training and implementation of instructional strategies has a positive impact on student achievement. As outlined throughout the Educational Services Year-End Results, professional development is embedded within each objective that supports the overall goal of preparing all students to be college and career ready. Showcase Awards, Refining and Expanding Existing Programs, and Exploring Future Programs The Walnut Valley Unified School District and its school sites have earned an incredible number of awards and achievements during 2016/2017 school year. • Diamond Bar and Walnut High Schools were awarded the 2017 California Gold Ribbon Schools Award, the state’s highest academic honor. These schools represent examples of excellent teaching, learning, and collaborating, as well as highly successful school climates. Schools applied for this award based on a signature program that can be replicated by other schools. Diamond Bar High School submitted its Wellness Center, as its signature program, while Walnut High School chose its International Baccalaureate Career-Related Program (IBCP)/Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Biomedical Science program. • The California Department of Education named Chaparral Middle School and Suzanne Middle School as “model schools” in the 2017 Schools to Watch – Taking Center Stage (STW-TCS) program. Chaparral and Suzanne are now among an elite group of 90 schools in the state and more than 450 around the nation selected as Schools to Watch. • Diamond Bar and Walnut High Schools were recognized in the U.S. News & World Report of 2017 America’s Best High Schools. Diamond Bar High School earned a gold medal, ranking 43 rd in California and 277 th in the nation. Walnut High School earned a silver medal, ranking 95 th in California and 557 th in the nation. Both standout schools have made the listing every year since the publication began its best high schools search in 2009. • Diamond Bar and Walnut High Schools have been named among “America’s 2017 Most Challenging High Schools,” by The Washington Post. Diamond Bar High School ranked 69 th in California and Walnut High School ranked 78 th in the state. 17
