An overview of causes and consequences of
substance-related and addictive disorders, the major
drug classifications, and the counselor's code of
ethics. Overview of alternatives regarding
prevention, intervention, and treatment. Includes
explanation of competencies and requirements for
licensure in Texas. Also covers addiction issues
related to diverse populations. With case
management as the focus, this course prepares the
student to make the transition to active practice as
a substance abuse counselor.
