Area of Focus # 4: Leadership Development
Goal:
Develop and expand leadership capacity throughout the organization.
Objectives:
Continue to expand professional development in the area of leadership for all managers, certificated personnel, and classified staff.
Continue to explore resources and professional development to assist site administrators in balancing the practical managerial tasks and the leadership responsibilities.
Continue to provide professional development in the area of Leading Change, including the oversight of Common Core implementation.
Continue building capacity among leaders in areas such as fiscal management, technology skills, instructional leadership, and courageous conversations.
Expand coaching for school site administrators.
Develop and implement a Leadership Academy and / or Seminar to develop the skills of aspiring leaders and further strengthen leadership at all levels of the district.
Introduction:
In addressing the Leadership Development goals and objectives, we examined our current practices and our goals for the future. Below is a summary of how the objectives have been addressed along with overall recommendations for continued areas of focus.
We were able to sustain and / or expand the professional development opportunities in the area of leadership development at all levels of our organization. Site and district-level managers participated in a series of leadership development opportunities which covered a wide-variety of topics. The overarching theme of the development was entitled, Leadership in 4 Directions( leading your boss, colleagues, subordinates, and self). Topics included Servant Leadership( highlighted by the Build-a-Bike activity), STEAM leaders, Values-based leadership, Leading with Credibility, the Green Line Theory of leadership, leadership in crisis, and Communicating in the 21 st Century.
