GLOSSARY OF TERMS & DEFINITIONS
Wheel Simulator/Liner
A cover for a wheel (normally
a steel wheel) that gives the appearance of a chrome or
polished aluminum wheel. Usually wheel simulators are
made from stainless steel.
DOT-Liner®
A Simulator that mechanically attaches to
the wheel. Does not require the removal of the lug nuts for
installation.
UNI-Liner®
A Simulator that mechanically attaches to the
wheel. Does not require the removal of the lug nuts for a
universal fit to wheel.
Quick-Liner®
A Simulator that attaches to the wheel using
a friction fit and/or clips does not require the removal of the
lug nuts or any tools for installation.
Jam nut
DOTLiner.
A hex head nut used to mechanically attach a

A stainless steel cover that fits over the top
of a jam nut for cosmetic purposes.
Stud extender
A tube that is threaded on the inside and
outside used to “extend” the OEM stud length to be able to
attach the DOTLiner® wheel simulator.
Hub cover A cover for only the center hub.

The measurement between the stud

Stud hole
The opening through which the stud will protrude
thru the wheel.
Stud
A threaded bolt used to thread a lug nut.
Lug nut
A nut used to thread on a stud for attaching the
wheel to the axle.
Stud piloted The wheel is “centered” or located into the
proper location by the lug nuts. The lug nuts are usually
tapered on one end and flat on the opposite end. Sometimes
referred to as a “Ball Seat Wheel.”
Hub piloted The wheel is “centered” or located into the
proper location by the hub of the vehicle. The lug nuts on
this type of application are usually black with a flat “swivel”
washer on the bottom end.
Tandem/Dual Wheel Two wheels are attached to the hub of
the vehicle.
Single wheel
