DUSTY
BOYER
Junior I Ham Lake, Minnesota
Outlook (2014-15): Dusty Boyer captured first-team All-Big Ten honors as a
sophomore for Nebraska in 2013-14 and hopes to build on that experience as a
junior for the Huskers in 2014-15.
The Ham Lake, Minn., native competed out of the top spot in Nebraska’s singles
lineup as a sophomore and posted an impressive 16-9 mark during the spring,
including a 6-5 record in Big Ten action. He finished the season with 25 singles
victory to tie for the fifth-most victories in a season in Husker history. Boyer added
19 doubles wins, including a 15-8 mark in the spring that included a 6-4 record in
conference play.
Boyer enters his junior season with 44 career singles victories, needing just 14
wins to climb into a tie for seventh all-time at Nebraska.
“Dusty is a great kid on and off the court,” Head Coach Kerry McDermott said.
“He is learning that if he can improve his focus on the court and stay more intense
that great things will happen in his future. Dusty and Marc (Herrmann) are our
building blocks to this program, and we look for great things from both these guys
to carry Nebraska tennis with respect in the Big Ten and nationally.”
Sophomore (2013-14): Boyer produced one of the best individual seasons in
Husker history on his way to first-team All-Big Ten honors. He notched a 25-15
singles record that included a 16-9 mark in the spring, playing almost exclusively
out of the No. 1 spot in the NU lineup. He went a solid 6-5 in Big Ten singles play.
His 25 singles victories tied for the fifth-best total in Nebraska history. His singles
season included a 13-match winning streak.
Boyer also enjoyed success on the doubles court for the Big Red, posting a 1913 overall record that included a 15-8 spring mark. He went 6-4 in Big Ten action.
Also a standout in the classroom, Boyer earned academic All-Big Ten honors for
the first time in his young career.
Freshman (2012-13): Boyer went 19-16 in his first season with the Huskers,
including a 12-11 spring mark and a 3-8 Big Ten record. Boyer played in the No. 1,
2, 3 and 4 positions for the Big Red.
Boyer played a lot of doubles matches in his freshman year, going 14-13 overall,
including an 11-9 spring mark and 5-5 in Big Ten play.
Before Nebraska: Boyer finished his senior year at Forest Lake High School with
an impressive 30-0 record and his fourth state title. He closed his prep career with
a 129-1 singles record. He was the first player in Minnesota history to claim four
state singles championships.
Personal: Dusty is the son of David and Gina Boyer. He was born July 2, 1993
in Grand Forks, N.D. Dusty has a younger brother, Toby. Dusty is majoring in
communications at Nebraska.
MARC
HERRMANN
Junior I Rohrbach, Germany
Outlook (2014-15): Marc Herrmann is expected to be one of Nebraska’s most
talented players in the top of the lineup again as a junior in 2014-15.
A two-year starter near the top of the Husker lineup, Herrmann won a combined
42 matches in singles and doubles play at the No. 2 position as a sophomore.
“Marc keeps wanting to improve,” Head Coach Kerry McDermott said. “He
pushes his teammates and finds ways to win even when he’s not playing well. I
feel Marc is ready for a great year, and he knows what to expect this year. The
experience last year has made him hungry to do some great things this year.”
Sophomore (2013-14): Herrmann enjoyed a strong sophomore season playing
at the No. 2 position in both singles and doubles for the Huskers. He posted a 2017 overall record in singles for the 25th 20-win season in school history. Herrmann

won 11 matches in the spring after posting an impressive 9-3 record during the
fall. Herrmann teamed with Beauregard Treyz and Dusty Boyer in doubles action,
finishing 22-15 overall, including a 5-6 Big Ten mark.
An academic All-Big Ten selection for the first time in 2014, Herrmann also
earned Nebraska’s Big Ten Sportsmanship Award for the second consecutive
season.
Freshman (2012-13): Herrmann had a stellar season as a freshman, posting a
17-20 overall singles record, including a 10-12 spring mark. He went 5-6 in Big Ten
play. Herrmann’s 17 wins are among the top 40 in the single-season record book.
Herrmann also saw success on the doubles court with a 13-14 overall record,
including an 8-10 spring mark. He went 3-2 in Big Ten action.
Herrmann was recognized with the 2013 Big Ten Sportsmanship Award for
Nebraska. Herrmann earned Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selections in
the fall of 2012 and spring of 2013.
Before Nebraska: Herrmann attended Gymnasium at Rotenbuehl and played
club tennis for TC Rotenbuehl Saarbruecken. He was ranked as high as No. 117
in Germany.
Personal: Marc is the son of Joerg and Sonja Herrmann, and was born July
9, 1993, in Dudweiler, Germany. Marc has one younger brother, Eric. Marc is
majoring in accounting at Nebraska.
SCOTT
ELSASS
Junior I Eden Prairie, Minnesota
Outlook (2014-15): Scott Elsass has enjoyed consistent success on the court for
Nebraska in his first two seasons and hopes to become an even more significant
contributor in the Husker lineup as a junior.
Elsass played a major role in NU’s doubles lineup as a sophomore, posting an 8-5
record out of the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions, including a 4-4 mark in Big Ten
play. He also posted a 4-1 mark in singles action.
“Scott has been a pleasant surprise in our program,” Head Coach Kerry
McDermott said. “He is a very dedicated worker and his work habits are good
examples for his teammates to follow. I feel that Scott will have a chance to play
singles, as he is a fierce competitor much like Tom (Blackwell), and he wants to
prove himself this year in the singles lineup. Hopefully, Scott will continue to
improve and with his doubles skills we look for some great things to happen down
the road this year.”
