Youth Art Enrichment
2015 saw 24 visiting and local high school students and their chaperones
participate in a series of special arts workshops hosted by KIAC. In addition
to students from Robert Service School in Dawson, participants came from
Whitehorse, Mayo, and Haines Junction.
The Youth Art Enrichment workshops were hosted by three professional artists
who offered their unique perspectives on producing art and exploring the
creative instincts within all of us. The 2015 Workshops featured Fundamentals
of Drawing with Meshelle Melvin, Exploring Colour with Paint and Paper with
Suzanne Paleczny, and Traditional Beading with Dolores Scheffen.
The work created during the program was exhibited in the KIAC Ballroom
during the Community Coffeehouse on the last day of the program. It was also
exhibited in Whitehorse at the Commissioner’s Youth Showcase at the Old Fire
Hall on November 18 and at the Atco Electric Yukon Youth Gallery at the Yukon
Art Centre December 3 to 19.
This year was the fifteenth year that KIAC has offered the Youth Art Enrichment
program. Each year KIAC purchases two pieces of art for the Youth Art Enrichment
Collection. To celebrate our 15th year the collection is being permanently installed
at KIAC for the enjoyment of the community. Be sure to stop by to view this
impressive display of art work created by Yukon high school students.
