QUARTETS AT SUNSET Enjoy the beauty of Haydn’s string quartets in the superb acoustic surrounds of the Collins St Baptist Church. Bringing together four of Australia’s premiere chamber music ensembles, this program is a celebration of the string quartet in all its forms, from Haydn’s most exquisite compositions through to the great works of the composers who followed him—Hummel, Shostakovich, Ross Edwards and more. They recently won the Musica Viva Australia Tony Berg Award for most outstanding Australian ensemble, as well as the Peter Druce Audience Prize at the 2013 Asia Pacific Chamber Music Competition in Melbourne. In 2014, Orava completed a two-year graduate Quartet in Residence at the University of Colorado, where they worked closely with the world-renowned Takács string quartet. Orava is currently based in Brisbane as Quartet in Residence with the Camerata of St John’s, Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra. One of the world’s most lauded chamber ensembles, the Australian Chamber Orchestra is renowned for its inspired programming and unrivalled virtuosity, energy and individuality. Its unique programming extends across six centuries, spanning popular masterworks, adventurous cross-artform projects and pieces specially commissioned for the ensemble. Haydn String quartet No 33 Op 33 No 6 Ross Edwards String quartet No 3 summer dances Shostakovich String quartet No 6 WED 14 OCTOBER at 6PM Founded in 1975, this string orchestra comprises leading Australian and international musicians and a growing company of dedicated young players. The Orchestra performs as a symphony orchestra, chamber music ensemble and electro-acoustic collective collaborating with an extraordinary range of artists from numerous artistic disciplines including renowned soloists Emmanuel Pahud, Steven Isserlis, Martin Fröst and Joseph Tawadros; singers Katie Noonan, Paul Capsis, Dawn Upshaw and Teddy Tahu Rhodes; and such diverse artists as cinematographer Jon Frank, visual artist Shaun Tan, entertainer Barry Humphries, photographer Bill Henson, choreographer Rafael Bonachela and cartoonist Michael Leunig.
