Boys’ The Boys 1st XI had a successful year last year, and with only 3 players leaving, we aimed to continue our good form from last year. We began the season with preseason games against Lindisfarne and Hastings Boys, and played well, and even with 2 losses it gave us confidence for the season and helped us excel over the season. A close loss against Wairarapa early on in the season (5-2) improved the team belief, that we could take it to the top teams in the country. We went through the regular season in the Hawkes Bay competition undefeated, and winning our quarters and semis, we were dead favourites to win the Hawkes Bay competition, but this was not Hockey Boys 1st XI] the case. We were able to get over Tawa in our other interschool game which made it the 5th time we have beaten them while I have been in the team. Our tournament was a great chance to compete with some of the best teams in the country. Playing, and competing teams like Kristin School, who had beaten teams playing in the Rankin Cup was a fantastic experience, and a great justification of the strength of the team. 6th place was a very good result in a tiered tournament, especially for our first time in the tier. I give credit to the desire and hard work of the boys, and the commitment of our team management to make us improve. I hope this years team leaves a high standard of the next years team to strive to. Thank you to Geoff, and to Mr Throp. I hope your time was worth it!
