Shortly after, Brigham scored a fantastic goal beating their pivot in a one on one and making the score at 1-1. However, by the end of the first half we were down 3-1. Into the second half with swift defending and fast counter attacks we managed to level up the scores within 10 minutes of the second half left. Things clicked for us, scoring 2 more goals to win 5-3 and become the Hawke’s Bay Regional Champions for the 3rd year in a row. NZSS Futsal Championship Our first game of the NZSS Futsal Championship 2015 was against Glendowie College. Their strongest player was the most important, their keeper. We had plenty of shots but they just kept us out until Cameron had a one-onone with their keeper and scored. Our 1-0 win was just the start we needed. In the second game, against Wainuiomata, we won 7-2. After the first day of group stage, we were first in the overall rankings. Our third game was against Papanui High. They looked the sharpest of all the teams we had seen in our pool, but with solid defence, fast counter-attacks and our strong ability to maintain possession we won again and kept a clean sheet with a 4-0 win. The fourth and final pool play game was against Cashmere which we won 4-0. We had topped our group with no real trouble and were optimistic about the possibility of making the final with the squad we had and the way we had been playing. In the quarter-final we played Hamilton Boys’. They had scored the most goals but had dropped a game against Nelson in closely contested group. We believed we could take this game and make it to the semifinals. We had a solid start with Logan scoring from a corner but that lead would not last for very long. They scored shortly after. Most of the first half was 1-1 until they scored just before halftime making it 2-1. This was not the halftime result we wanted but we weren’t out of it yet. Coming out in the second half with guns blazing, we worked very hard to get that goal back, but couldn’t with Hamilton scoring 2. Hogne scored to shorten the gap to 4-2 but it was too little, too late. Hamilton Boys’ won 4-2. It was a disappointing end to an amazing journey, but we tried our best. We ended up fifth equal in New Zealand, a healthy improvement from last year’s 10th. Played 10 Won 8 Lost 2 Draw 0 Goals For 44 Goals Against 20
