ECNISS Champs
It was Georgia Hulls two years ago, Georgia
Rathbone last year and this year it was the turn
of Emily Young to dominate the junior sprints.
She won both the 100m and 200m with ease
and then with the help of Georgia Lane, Grace
Brebner, and Maggie Brunton, won the 4x100m
relay for HNHS, the third year in a row the
school has won this race. The school won nine
titles in all, more than any other school for girls’
titles. Considering the team were without the
two Georgia’s, Hulls in Australia and Rathbone
injured, it was a great feat.
Jenna Tidswell won the intermedia te 800m,
and finished second in the 1500m and javelin.
A bonus for her was the victory in the senior
4x100m relay when she and team-mates, Annah
McPherson, Madi Chu and Monique Thomson Athletics
not only won the race in a close finish, but broke Back Row: Annah McPherson, Tom Klingender, Jenna Tidswell, Felicity Keane,
Taylor, Grace Brebner, Olivia Wolland, Kaiyin Hardy, Sam Gilbert
the school record in doing so. Annah, too had a 3rd Row: Natalya
Sophia Peterson, Ellie O’Keeffe, Emily Young, Ana Rathbone, Greer Edilson,
good day, winning the triple jump and finishing Georgia Hulls, Maggie Brunton, Georgia Rathbone
2nd Row: Callum Wilkie, Ben Caldwell, Charles Talbot, Joel Engelke, Mitchell Keip,
third in the 100m and long jump.
Ronan Jordan, Jarrod Lobb, Kayla Redman, Sean Morrison
Front Row: Georgia Lane, Jubilee Engelke
There was no surprise in the senior javelin where the overwhelming favourite, Natalya Taylor won, but the efforts of
Lauren Hartridge and Olivia Addis in finishing second and third was a great feat for the school. The haul was good
in javelin where Ronan Jordan threw close to 40 metres to nail second in intermediate boys’, while the junior girls
threw well, Felicity Keane, Harmony MacDonald and Bella Matich finished 3rd, 4th, and 5th respectively.
Georgia Rathbone was supposed to win the pole vault, impressing her coach with her skill in the leadup, but the injury a couple of days before competition opened the door for sister Ana Rathbone to step up and take the title in the
open event.
The boys’ sole victory came in the senior high jump, where Mitchell Keip won on countback, leaping 1.80m in doing
so. Other boys to do well were Callum Wilkie (2nd in the senior 400m), Sean Morrison and Jarrod Lobb (2nd and
3rd in the senior 800m), Joel Engelke (3rd in the intermediate 3000m and 2nd in the open steeplechase), and the
senior 4x400 team of Wilkie, Morrison, Lobb and Dylan Kirk, who finished third.
The hard luck story of the day had to go to Arabella McLeay. After finishing close fourths in the 800m and 400m,
she finished second in the triple jump, but in the process, injured herself and finished the day on crutches!
