This year Colla Voce has performed a
number of times and was privileged
enough to be asked to perform in the 40th
Jubilee School Arts festival.
We performed alongside other successful performers that were past students
of Havelock North High School. This
opportunity was a definite highlight for
the choir. We were able to see what hard
work can do and where it can get us in the
future with the standard of performing
being outstanding. We also competed in
the annual Big Sing competition in term
two and just recently performed in the
schools Music Festival. Our performances
were at our highest thanks to the
directorship of the incredibly talented,
Mrs Melville. Colla Voce strives to
continue the high standard of performing
that we have achieved this year and very
much enjoyed growing as a choir.
Over the four audition lunchtimes, in week two of Term 3, many talented students performed for a place in
the finals. Each session was judged by one student from the committee and one teacher, each with
experience in the category of the day.
There were four categories - classical, dance and drama, singer/songwriter and bands. The year nine
representation was outstanding this year, both in the auditions and finals. The final acts were the Year 9
Rock Band, musical duo Lauren Hartridge and Brydie Nathan, dancers Emma Millar and Amy Miller, violinist Micah Thompson, dancer Flo Mills, singer Nicole Brebner, singer Alex White, singer/guitarist Miharo
Jones, singer/guitarist Arran Cargill-Brown, classical singer Larissa Kent and Year 12 Rock band, Headlock.
Our esteemed judging panel of Mr Wilton, Mrs Neville-Foster and Philippa Stonehouse had the difficult
decision of judging. In the end they found Miharo Jones to be our most talented Junior Student.
Flo Mills received the Adjudicator’s Choice Award while Lauren Hartridge and Brydie Nathan received
second place.
This meant that Arran Cargill-Brown was awarded the title of Havelock North High School’s Most Talented
Student with his performance of original song ‘Sally’.
Congratulations to all students involved in the auditions and those in the finals. It was a great week
celebrating the cultural talent of our school.
