Paruro: You are not forgotten
New Direction of HHK WMC
WHERE IS IT
Located at the bottom of a deep valley, the small province of Paruro
requires a two and half hour bus ride to get to. Home to 4,000
inhabitants, Paruro is also home to a small number of Incan and
pre-Incan ruins. People in this region are of Quechua decent, with
majority of the population (92 percent) speaking Quechua and only
about 8 percent speaking Spanish.
Although Paruro has the most productive agricultural land in the
province, its seclusion in the deep valley makes it virtually inaccessible
to large commercial vehicles. In many of the steep gradients of the
Andean mountains the elevation can drop from 4,300 miles above
sea level to 2,400 miles above sea level across only a 6 km (3.4 miles)
span. These quick elevation changes in a short distance contribute to
the broad range of environmental zones in a relatively small area.
WHY THERE
When our HHK WMC staff first came to this area a few years ago,
they realized that the children living here dressed so differently from
one another that it was easy to determine from which region of
Paruro the children came based simply on their clothing. Something
else that struck the staff was the isolation of the region. When our
mission center started to share the love of God with the members in this remote area, the children were eager
and excited to hear what the staff had to say.
Now in 2015, we are praising God as we start adding all the children in this region into our Children of Jesus
ministry and continue to help nurture the spiritual growth of these young brothers and sisters in Christ.
There are many children in this area who are in desperate need of someone to sponsor them and help them
in their walk. Will you be that someone?
Here are a few pictures of the
many new Children of Jesus
applicants that we are adding
from the Paruro region. If
you are moved to sponsor
one of these children please
contact our office or visit our
website at www.coj.org.
