Safety Spotlight Preventing Crime is Everyone’s Fight October 2016 In Texas, National Night Out is celebrated on the first Tuesday of October each year. National Night Out (NNO) offers opportunities to build and enhance partnerships between police and the community to prevent crime. Another partnership we don’t want to forget about is the partnership between neighbors ~ it may even be a more important relationship! Neighbors who become friends will keep each other informed about potential happenings in the neighborhood. These friends know when your garage door is not supposed to be open, or when there is a strange vehicle parked in your driveway or near your house. National Night Out is a great opportunity to begin or reinforce your community relation- ships. Continuing that development throughout the year will help aid in the reduction and fear of crime. Benefits of the Partnerships…  Safer feeling knowing your neighbor is looking out for you.  Knowledge for Police agencies to plan future community programs and services.  Awareness in your neighborhood of potential criminal activity.  Engaging relationships in the community.
