Preventing Fire is
Everyone’s Fight
October 2016
Did you know that the 2nd week of October is designated as Fire Prevention Week? The pur-
pose of Fire Prevention Week is to promote fire safety on a variety of topics. However, it is im-
portant to practice fire safety year round.
The theme this year is Don’t Wait – Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years. In
the case of smoke alarms, AGE DOES MATTER. Use the following info-graphic on how to check
the dates on your smoke alarms. We want to encourage residents to check the dates on their
smoke alarms and replace them if they have reached the age of 10.

Date! Replace Smoke
Alarms Every 10 Years.
If the smoke alarm sounds, get
outside and stay outside. Go to
your designated meeting place.
Call the fire department from a cell
phone or a neighbor’s phone. Stay
out until it is safe to go back inside.
Install smoke alarms in every sleeping room and outside each separate
sleeping area. For the best protection, make sure all smoke alarms are
interconnected. When one sounds, they all sound.
