Our Scholars for Change learn how to be ROOTS -- Respect, Organized, Optimistic, Taking Ownership and Striving for excellence. It is an expectation that our Scholars for Change will gain the necessary knowledge to make informed choices about college, gain access to arts and culture, and develop knowledge of self. Scholars become proud, confident and positive contributors to society and work to change the injustices that exist in our world. At RIA, our motto is “I know where I come from. I know where I’m going.” We live this motto daily by providing the following: ethnic studies curriculum; culturally relevant college preparatory classes; international travel opportunities and service learning; performing arts focused electives; social justiceoriented character building; restorative rather than punitive approaches to discipline. RIA is a small school where Scholars are able to develop positive relationships with adults in a safe and supportive homeroom structure. The Homeroom Teacher Advocate provides consistent communication about overall progress to families. We opened a Family Resource Center to assist families with connecting to needed services, and to support families in engaging with their child’s school. All Scholars have access to homework support, as well as tutorial, academic and recreational enrichment through our daily afterschool program and Saturday School. www.ousd.k12.ca.us School Uniform Description At RIA we wear white or green tops, or shirts with the school logo.
