From bell to 6:00pm The students at RISE Community School are eager, thoughtful, and creative learners thriving in an environment of collaboration and reflection. At RISE, teachers, staff, families, and community members share a vision that sees the education of each child as a collective responsibility. RISE teachers constantly reflect on their practice and challenge each other to grow professionally. Through a structure of shared decision-making, RISE teachers collaborate to develop curricula and practices that integrate academic content through engaging investigations in which students are able to develop deep understandings through personal experiences and to apply their knowledge in practical, hands-on settings. These same qualities that make our day program so unique are extended and enhanced in our afterschool program. Whether it is kindergarteners transforming their classrooms into aquariums, second graders examining dinosaur fossils, or fourth and fifth graders playing the roles of historical figures, RISE students are active participants in a deep and rich academic environment. By combining opportunities for group collaboration, independent reflection, creative expression, and rigorous inquiry, the RISE program challenges students to develop as individuals and community members. The teachers, staff, and families at RISE are not only proud of their ability to motivate their students to learn and grow, but even more so of our students’ abilities to challenge us in the same way.
