Elementary TK-5
Horace Mann Elementary is a school on the rise. We
have worked hard over the past few years to become
a community school, representing and supporting the
students and families in our neighborhood. We have a strong
academic program that is highlighted by our participation
in the District’s math cohort for the past several years,
piloting new strategies and curriculum. We have a new
Balanced LIteracy program that will help us prepare for the
new Common Core standards. We promote college interest
and readiness with our teachers sharing their enthusiasm
and experiences, encouraging our fifth graders to connect
with the college of their choice. It’s never to early to start
making plans. We maintain a focus on social and emotional
learning at our school. Our teachers share Caring School
Communities lessons with classroom meetings daily. Our
playground is supervised and enhanced by our partnership
with the HEROES organization that keeps kids active and
focused on cooperative play. Another partnership that makes
our school special is with our Afterschool Program, run by
Bay Area Community Resources. We have an active parents
group in our School Site Council, and we hope to involve
even more parents in our volunteer efforts. We have high
expectations of our students and staff, and we know that
working collaboratively will set the foundation for a lifelong
quest for knowledge.
