We begin where they are and help to accelerate their progress toward reaching their fullest potential. We believe our responsibility begins with providing several learning options, or different pathways to learning, which help ALL students make sense of 21st Century academic demands. Asking not ‘how smartis the child?’ but ‘how is the child smart?’ we ask children to dream big and then pursue those dreams with passion, persistence, purpose, and pride. Our motto is ‘Work Hard, Get Smart.’ Diversity is at our core and serves as our strength. With our Common Core aligned curriculum and our focus on science, technology, engineering (coding and LEGOs), art, and mathematics (STEAM), our goal is to implement programs that are academically rigorous, founded in best practices, and that instill a sense of responsibility, confidence, and positive attitude for all students. Staff members collaborate within and across grade levels to provide a differentiated educational program that meets the needs of all students. Every student has access to the Common Core curriculum with a strong emphasis on math, science, and technology. Our computer lab is equipped with thirty computers loaded with high-quality software and we use Chromebooks in the classroom. The Ann Martin Center, which is housed on site, supports students’ and families’ socio-emotional health. We have on-site one-to-one and small group counseling with our counseling intern. Our volunteer corps includes Faith Network, the Jewish Coalition League, the American Association of University Women and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. They operate our school library, tutor students in our Excel Reading Clinic, and support schoolwide Reading and Math Nights. The Ujimaa Afterschool Program provides students with extended learning day opportunities that include competitive sports, arts enrichment, nutrition, academic homework support and extended learning field trips. www.ousd.k12.ca.us School Uniform Description No uniforms.
