Overview of Continuation
and Alternative Schools
The OUSD continuation and alternative schools listed
below are not a part of the Options Enrollment process.
This is because they are specialized programs with specific
requirements that need to be met before your student
can be considered eligible for program placement. If you
are interested in having your student be considered for a
continuation or other alternative program, it is essential that
you contact the Student Assignment Center.
Continuation Schools: Bunche,
Dewey and Rudsdale High Schools
Continuation schools offer intensive guidance, a variable
credit system and individualized instruction. All continuation
students have the opportunity to earn a high school diploma.
Priority Enrollment Criteria
To qualify for enrollment in a continuation school, a student
must
• be 17 years or older,
• have completed a minimum of two full years of high school,
• have completed between 100 and 155 credits at the
beginning of 12th grade, and
• have completed between 40 and 90 credits at the beginning
of 11th grade.
Families who are interested in our continuation program
are strongly encouraged to submit an Options Enrollment
application to apply for comprehensive schools while they
are pursuing the possibility of their child being considered
for a continuation program. There are a large number of
students applying to the continuation schools and there
is limited seating available. Participating in the Options
Enrollment process will ensure that your child is assigned a
comprehensive school to attend in the fall while awaiting
placement in a continuation school.
