Table Tennis
Firstly, thank you all for another great, successful
season of table tennis. This year, Havelock North
High School was represented by 10 teams in the
Hawke’s Bay Table Tennis Association’s competition run over six weeks. Each team is made up
of three players and with reserves this meant that
we had over 40 dedicated table tennis devotees.
I am pleased to report that our three teams in the
A Grade competition finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th in
the competition. We were also runners up in the C
Grade competition.

However, more than success in the competition, we can
Back Row: Daiki Takano, Takumi Deguchi, Ryoma Ishii, Jack Francois, Joshua Kent, Harry
take pride in the way we played. A huge thank you to all

I really enjoyed table tennis in term 2. My team was really
Sykes, Jack Morgan, Mr Lowry (Coach)
supportive and we had plenty of laughs, like when I reFront Row: Suzanna Small, Ami Kizawa, Sam Percival, Jack Roberts, (Captain), Josh
Every, Chika Niizuma, Crisell Jaque Peralta
bounded the ball off someone’s head!

Megan Baker, Larissa
Doubles games tested my ability to work with a partner and Holly Robertshaw, Selwyn Webby Kent, Anna-Thea Littek, Mitchell Kite, Teag MacKay,
the singles games tested my raw talent.
I would definitely recommend doing table tennis next year.
You can pick who you want to be in your team and it is a
really great experience overall.

Tennis
Tennis is in a rebuilding phase after a big drop off in numbers
playing the game. We had a very good junior boys team
and a social, but still competitive, senior girls team. The
Junior Boys won their grade. The team comprised of Ben
Waddington, Richard Russell, Joel Engelke, Zahn Philip
comfortably beat all their opposition. The senior girls team
was made up from Caitlin King, Alice Guerin,
Kaya Shaw-Throp, Crystal Walsh and Liz Wicken.

A promising interest from juniors to play in Term 4 means that
we can continue to build on numbers. The short summer
sports season and a conflict of playing days has made
commitment difficult for some.
