NZSS Champs A small team made the trip, featuring the winners of the school cross country went to Palmerston North. Best placing for the school was in the Year 9 girls’ race, where Jenna Tidswell finished 42nd. Joel Engelke finished 63rd in a junior field of 186 after not being able to train due to knee problems during the week, Daniel Way’s run was outstanding in the senior race, despite coming 114th, and Charlie Hartridge, taking part in his first nationals, competed in the Year 9 race, ending up 87th. The course was testing, and included a very muddy area. Tawa Exchange The exchange got off to a great start when the van full of runners took on their opponents on a hill circuit at Whitby. Callum Wilkie, Joel Engelke and Sean Olivia Wolland, Maddie Rogers Morrison finished 4th, 5th and 6th to round out a solid effort. But while Jarrod’s win was good, Jenna Tidswell’s win was emphatic. She ran away from her opponents, her nearest challenger was team-mate Aishlin McIntyre. 1st and 2nd, not bad for a pair of Year 9’s in an open race.
