Badminton Boys’ Although we had plenty of interested students who signed up for badminton initially, by the starting date of the inter-school competitions we only had enough for two teams, A- grade and a D- grade. The games were played every Tuesday after school. In most cases, one team played away whilst the other played at school. I would like to thank Mr T Petersen who transported the teams each week. The A grade faced some stiff competition this year, but on the whole, did very well. The team won convincingly against our Sports exchange with Wairarapa winning 6 - 0. I would like to thank Kevin Gee who helped the team out on occasions, especially enabling the team to travel to Tawa for our winter exchange. Although the team did not win, Ben had a great victory while Andrew also won his singles game. Kevin and Andrew had a very close game in the doubles, but unfortunately, missed another win. The D-Grade team which consisted of Joseph Belcher, David Setter, Oscar Smyth and Josh Telford won all of their games in the inter-school competition. The season finished with the Hawke’s Bay Inter-Secondary Schools’ Competition, held in Napier, over two weeks. These events were open to any player whether they played for the school or not. Although, the boys were not placed in either the singles or doubles, there was plenty of action. As both group of boys will all return in 2015, they will have a good starting point in next year’s round of competition.
